Research in architectural project in the educational process.

Abstract

The paper aims to investigate the dynamics and influences of the research within the architectural project starting from a brief definition of the process and deepening the distinction between traditional and non-traditional research forms.

With the vision of the foundation or invalidation of previous hypotheses, traditional research forms collect, organize and analyze data obtained through the observation and the experimentation of reality. Non-traditional research forms, seen either as arts-based research or just based on practical component become scientific methods that reach, through an alternative route, the same ultimate goal.

Thus, the contribution of design practice for academic research can be best described as a spectrum with two extreme poles, a long and variable combination between the two. If the design is inherently linear, reaching a single result, the research process involves divergent directions and their critique. The design is placed between empiric and rigorous, using both the generalization and particularization, taking thougth of appearance and order.
